Legal deposit Service
It is organized and functions according to Legal Deposit Law nr. 111/1995, republished in November 2007, through which the National Library of Romania is authorised to exert the role of National Agency for Legal Deposit.
The purpose of Legal Deposit Service is to organise the legal deposit at central level and coordinate the legal deposit at local level.
Regarding the National Library of Romania, Legal Deposit Service has the following responsibilities:
• the establishment, tracking, preservation, in warehouses, of the intangible stock;
• the distribution of publications meant for international exchange;
• the notification concerning copies and their distribution, in order to be recorded in the statistics and to compile the National Bibliography;
• the library collections’ growth by adding printed works and other types of documents from the current national production, which are under the Legal Deposit Law.
Legal Deposit Service contributes every year to the growth of the National Library of Romania’s collections with over 20.000 titles (books, CDROM, audio video documents).
